Candle Care

Welcome to our Candle Care page — your go-to resource for making the most of your candles. Proper candle care ensures a longer, cleaner, and safer burn every time. Here, you'll find tips and best practices to help you enjoy your candles to the fullest.

Trim the Wick – Always 1/4 Inch

Before each burn, trim your candle’s wick to about 1/4 inch. This helps prevent uneven burning, dripping, and excessive smoking. A properly trimmed wick ensures a steady flame and extends the life of your candle, keeping the wax clean and your space soot-free.

if your flame is too tall, blow it out and trim the wick, then re-light for a smaller flame.

Pro tip: Use a wick trimmer or small scissors for the best results!

Burn time

For the best results, allow your candle to burn long enough for the entire top layer of wax to melt and reach the edges of the container—this usually takes 1–3 hours, depending on the candle size. (Figure 1 hour per 1 inch.) This prevents tunneling and helps your candle burn evenly all the way down.

Tip: Avoid burning your candle for more than 4 hours at a time, as this can cause the wick to mushroom and create soot.

Bloom

Over time, you may notice a thin, powdery film on the surface of your beeswax candle. This is called bloom—a natural, harmless effect caused by temperature changes. It does not affect the candle’s performance. You can burn your candle as is, or gently buff the surface with a soft, dry cloth to restore its warm, golden sheen.

Hugging (for pillar candles)
“Hugging” helps your pillar candle burn more evenly and reduces wax waste.

  • Hug after each burn – While the wax is still warm (but not hot), gently press the outer edges inward toward the wick.

  • Encourage a clean burn – Hugging helps redirect wax toward the center, improving melt and reducing tunneling.

  • Be gentle – Fold the edges slightly without forcefully compressing the candle.

Tip: Regular hugging after each burn extends the life and beauty of your candle.

Taper Candle Drips

To minimize drips:

  • Place candles upright on a flat, level surface.

  • Keep them out of drafts—avoid open windows, doorways, fans, or high-traffic areas.

  • Trim wicks to ¼ inch before each burn.

A stable, still environment is key to a dripless flame.

Removing Wax from Candleholders
Wax buildup is easy to clean with this simple trick:

  1. Let the wax fully cool and harden.

  2. Place the candleholder in the freezer overnight.

  3. Gently pop off the wax—frozen wax shrinks slightly, making removal easier.

Note: Handle ceramic or glass holders with care while frozen, as they may be more fragile at low temperatures.
